Air chemistry

Aims
  • define the amount of gas and aerosol pollutant input to the ecosystem
  • contribute to a better estimate of of the dry deposition, e.g. of nitrogen, that is absorbed by the canopy

Gases and aerosols may interact with trees and understorey vegetation directly or indirectly via deposited pollutants in soil and surface waters. They are measured continuously by active and passive collectors.

Variables
SO2 and NO2 at all sites, with the addition of particulate SO4.and the sum of particulate and gaseous NO3 and NH4 at Gårdsjön

For further information see IVL.

The content of gases and dry particles in the air may be measured passively in absorbing cans exposed for a specified period or, as here, by cative air suction. (Vavihill, south Sweden)
